Press59

A launcher for macOS that lives in Caps Lock

Hold Caps Lock. Press C. You’re in Chrome.

Press59 turns the key you never use into a shortcut to every app you do. One letter per app. Press it again to hide. Tap Caps Lock on its own and it still types capitals.

Three moves. No windows, no search box.

⇪ hold

Hold Caps Lock

While it’s down, Caps Lock is your Hyper key — a modifier no other app is using.

S

Press a letter

Each app gets one key. S for Slack, F for Figma, G for GarageBand, T for Terminal — whatever your hands remember.

It’s in front

Opens it if it isn’t running, brings it forward if it is. Same keys again and it hides.

Your keyboard, mapped to your day.

Pick a key, pick an app. Try it — click a key.

⇪caps lock + C → Chrome

Small app. Does one thing all day.

Caps Lock still works

A quick tap on its own toggles capitals, light and all. Hold it, and it’s Hyper.

Hyper for everything else

Unassigned keys go out as ⌃⌥⇧⌘ + key, so your other apps get a clean modifier for their own shortcuts.

Press again to hide

Already looking at it? The same shortcut tucks it away. Turn it off if you prefer.

Nothing leaks through

Shortcuts are caught before any app sees them. No stray “c” typed into your doc.

Lives in the menu bar

No Dock icon, no window. Starts at login and stays out of the way.

Native and tiny

Written in Swift with system controls. No account, no sync, no analytics.

Questions

Does it break Caps Lock?

No. Tap Caps Lock quickly on its own and capitals toggle as always. It only becomes Hyper while you hold it and press another key.

Why does it need Accessibility access?

To catch a shortcut before the app you’re typing in sees it — that’s what keeps a stray letter from being typed. Press59 never records or sends what you type.

Why isn’t it on the Mac App Store?

Apps that intercept keystrokes can’t run in the App Store sandbox, so Press59 is distributed directly from this site.

Can I use it alongside Raycast or Alfred?

Yes. Turn off any other Hyper key setting so only one app owns Caps Lock, then use Hyper shortcuts in those apps as usual.
